2 cops injured in suicide bombing outside Turkiye Parliament building in Ankara
Turkey,OCTO 1 : Turkey’s interior minister on Sunday said two terrorists carried out a bomb attack in front of the ministry buildings in the heart of the Turkish capital, Ankara, hours before parliament was scheduled to reopen after a summer recess.
One of the terrorists died in the explosion and the other was “neutralised” by the authorities.
Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on X, two police officers were slightly injured during the attack.
Turkish media earlier reported that an explosion was heard near the parliament and ministerial buildings, and broadcasters showed footage of debris scattered on a street near the Interior Ministry.
Turkiye Interior Minister Yerlikaya said the terrorists arrived at the scene inside a light commercial vehicle.
“Two terrorists came with a light commercial vehicle in front of the entrance gate of the General Directorate of Security of our Ministry of Internal Affairs and carried out a bomb attack,” he said.
Television footage showed bomb squads working near a parked vehicle in the area which is located near the Turkish Grand National Assembly and other government buildings. Police cordoned off access to the city center.
There was no immediate information on the assailants.
