Odisha govt directs actions against teachers, other staff if found drunk in schools

Bhuabeneswar, Jan 9: The Odisha  government has ordered for action against teachers and other staff members on being found drunk in schools.

The school and mass education department has issued guidelines in this regard after several incidents of students getting harassed in schools came to fore last year.

The district collectors have been asked to take action in the cases of rights and safety of students getting hampered.

As per the issued guidelines, boundary wall shall be compulsorily built at all government and private schools and main gates will remain locked, during classes.

Police raids shall be conducted for eviction of shops near schools selling tobacco products and traffic management shall be ensured for schools near crowded places.

The guidelines further ask the district administration for creating awareness programmes among teachers and students on safety.

The guidelines enjoin the administration for identification of school bus drivers and conductors by local police and examination of their documents and make provision for facilities of drinking water, toilet and dustbin in schools.

Facilities in school buildings for dealing with natural calamities and fire mishaps like emergency exit and water stock to extinguish fire shall be made. No low lying electric wires near schools and no open wells on school premises have also been prescribed in the guidelines.

 No punishment for students shall also be meted out.
