Maharashtra,Mar 5 :  As many as 250 families residing in five buildings in Maharashtra’s Thane were vacated after some of the slabs of the residential complex in Dombivali started loosening and pillars developed cracks, fire brigade officials told PTI on Sunday.

The officials further added that the loose slabs and cracked pillars were noticed at 11 pm on Saturday, following which, the fire brigade, police and civic personnel arrived at the site in Nilje.

They then vacated the buildings housing around 250 families.

Housing society built by state-owned NBCC declared unsafe, residents asked to vacate

A civic sub fire officer, Namdeo Chowdhary, told PTI that the buildings were built in 1998.

“They are not on the list of dangerous buildings maintained by the Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation. The ward officer will take a call on its future after structural checks are carried out,” Chowdhary said.

Meanwhile, the evacuated residents were finding alternate accommodations on their own.

There were no reports of any injuries.
