Nor’wester Unleashes Havoc in Malkangiri: A Catastrophic 10 Minutes Leaves Destruction and Two Missing

Malkangiri, Odisha 01 June 23- A devastating Nor’wester, characterized by powerful winds and intense rain, wreaked havoc in Malkangiri today evening , leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Within a span of just 10 minutes, the natural disaster caused widespread damage, including a capsized boat, collapsed airstrip boundary, and numerous injuries.
The calamity struck Malkangiri with a sudden ferocity, catching residents off-guard. One country-made boat capsized in Satiguda Dam , resulting in two individuals going missing. An emergency search and rescue team from Koraput has been dispatched to locate and save the missing persons.
In addition to the maritime incident, an under-construction airstrip boundary collapsed under the force of the wind, leading to severe damage. Several workers at the site were injured, and immediate medical assistance was provided to them.
The impact of the Nor’wester was also felt in residential areas, with reports of significant property damage. The Aahar Kendra and Congress Bhawan suffered structural damage as their roofs were ripped off by the powerful winds. Many trees were uprooted, adding to the chaos, and the roofs of numerous houses were torn off or damaged.
Power supply was also disrupted as electric lines were severed, leaving the affected areas without electricity. TPSODL workers are diligently working to restore the power supply as quickly as possible.
Local authorities swiftly initiated relief efforts, coordinating with the police, fire services, and other emergency response teams to provide assistance to affected residents. Medical teams have been deployed to treat the injured, and efforts are underway to restore essential services and clear debris from roads.
