KOLKATA,SEPT 4 : Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday condemned MK Stalin’s son and DMK minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remark against ‘Sanatan dharma’, stating that the Opposition-led INDIA bloc has no connection with such comments.

“We condemn such remarks. Harmony is our culture. We have to respect other religions. The INDIA bloc has no connection with such comments. Whoever he may be, if anyone says something like this, we should condemn such statements,” TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said.

TMC’s reaction came after Tamil Nadu Youth Welfare Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin alleged that “Sanatan dharma” is against equality and social justice, and that it should be eradicated.

Udhayanidhi also likened “Sanatan dharma” to coronavirus, malaria, and dengue fever and said that such things should not be opposed but destroyed. The DMK leader’s remark triggered a massive political outburst with leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) demanding an apology.

Crying foul, the BJP even targeted the opposition alliance INDIA and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as well over the issue besides Tamil Nadu’s ruling party. Union Home Minister Amti Shah alleged that the INDIA bloc has insulted Sanatana dharma for vote bank and appeasement politics.

The BJP also termed Udhayanidhi’s remark as “hate speech” and claimed that “a complete eradication” of Hindu dharma is the “primary agenda” of the opposition alliance. The party has also urged the Supreme Court to take appropriate action against Udhayanidhi.

Meanwhile, an unfazed Udhayanidhi has maintained that his is the voice of the oppressed people and he is prepared to confront challenges, be it in a court of law or the people’s court.

The BJP sought an apology from Udhayanidhi, the son of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, and submitted a protest letter to the state’s resident commissioner in Delhi. A delegation from the BJP’s Delhi unit, including its president Virendra Sachdeva, MPs Harsh Vardhan and Parvesh Verma, visited the Tamil Nadu House to submit the protest letter addressed to MK Stalin.

Speaking to reporters, Sachdeva said that leaders of INDIA bloc should clear their stand on Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remarks. With his statement, Udhyanidhi Stalin tried to do what even foreign invaders failed to do in hundreds of years, Sachdeva said, alleging that the Tamil Nadu minister delivered a “hate speech against 100 crore Sanatan Dharmi Indians”.
