Champai Soren wins Jharkhand floor test 47-29, arrested Hemant Soren present
Jharkhand,Feb 5: Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren on Monday won the floor test in assembly as a total of 47 coalition MLAs supported him during the trust vote. The Opposition received 29 votes.
Champai Soren’s victory was announced by Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan. It was welcomed with loud cheers in the Jharkhand assembly.
The House has been adjourned for the day and will resume on Tuesday.
The majority mark in the 81-member Jharkhand Legislative Assembly is 41, and before today’s litmus test, Champai Soren previously said that the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has the support of 47 MLAs, which may increase to 50.
In today’s special session of Jharkhand assembly, Chief Minister Champai Soren moved the confidence motion and then attacked the BJP, saying the saffron party attempted to “destabilise” the elected state government.
He also gave arrested and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren a clean chit, saying he is being pulled up for a crime he did not commit.
“BJP using central agencies to frame Hemant Soren in false cases,” Champai Soren said earlier in the day after he moved the confidence motion.
He further said that his government in Jharkhand is “part two” of former Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s administration.
Hemant Soren, who is currently in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate in an alleged land scam, was also present for Monday’s trust vote after a PMLA Court permitted him to participate in the same.
Speaking in the assembly, Hemant Soren slammed the BJP-led Centre and challenged the Enforcement Directorate to prove his connection in the land scam. “If it is proven, I will quit politics,” the former Jharkhand Chief Minister added.
Ahead of the vital trust vote, nearly 40 coalition MLAs were shifted to Hyderbad in Telangana in a bid to thwart alleged poaching attempts by the BJP. The MLAs returned to Ranchi on Sunday (February 4) evening to partake in today’s trust vote. Visuals flooding social media showed the MLAs being taken to the Circuit House in Ranchi, as they flashed victory signs from the bus.
