Sarpanch and Samiti Members Gather for ‘Tobacco-Free Village’ Initiative Workshop at DRDA Conference Hall

Malkangiri, 20 Feb,2024:- On February 20, 2024, a significant one-day workshop aimed at promoting ‘Tobacco-free Village” was convened at the local DRDA conference hall. Attended by Sarpanch and Samiti members, the workshop saw participation from prominent medical professionals and officials advocating for tobacco control measures.
Presided over by Dr. Prafulla Kumar Nanda, CDMO, Dr. Habid Hussain, DPHO, and Dr. Dhaneshwar Mahapatra, DMO, the workshop shed light on the various adverse effects of tobacco consumption. Dr. Durgaprasad Raj presented insights into the pivotal role Sarpanches play in ensuring tobacco-free Gram Panchayats, utilizing a Powerpoint presentation for effective communication.
Furthermore, Food Safety Officer Prabhas Sethy elucidated on existing tobacco control laws, emphasizing the importance of their enforcement. As a guest of honor, Dr. Ranjan Kumar Swain, Convenor of District Red Cross, underscored the alarming consequences of tobacco usage, urging attendees to take proactive measures against it.
Dr. Swain,urged individuals to abstain from smoking and emphasized the need for collective action to combat tobacco addiction. In a symbolic gesture, Sarpanch and Samiti members concluded the workshop by taking an oath to strive towards making their respective Gram Panchayats tobacco-free in the foreseeable future.
