Malkangiri,12th March,2024:-The Malkangiri Municipality’s recent tender for 13 developmental projects has come under scrutiny as the Malkangiri District Congress Party alleges irregularities in its execution. The party has filed a complaint with the Vigilance Department, urging a thorough investigation.

According to the Congress Party, the projects are being executed in a substandard and irregular manner, prompting their demand for a probe. Tender notices were issued for the projects, attracting developers who commenced work. However, concerns arose over the quality of work and lack of proper supervision.

Supervision conducted by the District Congress Committee President and members revealed discrepancies. The estimated cost for the 13 projects was Rs. 84,23,000, but an astonishing Rs. 70,78,714 was reportedly spent, raising doubts about the actual expenses.

Moreover, observations during supervision highlighted significant deviations from the specified standards. Concrete work, for instance, was found to be inadequate, with thickness in some areas measuring only one inch instead of the required four inches. Similarly, the placement of rods within drain plates was not as per specifications.

The Congress Party suspects collusion between executive officers and contractors, leading to inflated costs and compromised quality. They demand swift action against those responsible.

Congress President Govinda Patra, along with party members Mangu Khila, G. Srinivasa Rao, and Ishaq Khosla, presented the complaint, emphasizing the need for accountability and transparency in municipal projects. The Vigilance Department is now tasked with investigating the alleged irregularities to ensure public funds are utilized efficiently and effectively.
