AAP’s Sanjay Singh released from jail, addresses supporters outside
NEW DELHI, APR 3 : Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh walked out of Tihar Jail nearly six months after he was arrested in a money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped liquor policy case.
Upon his release, Sanjay Singh was welcomed by a large group of AAP supporters who gathered outside the jail premises to receive their leader. The AAP MP was welcomed with dhol, garlands and showered with flower petals outside the jail.
Wearing a white pyjama-kurta and a Nehru jacket, Sanjay Singh, atop a car, addressed AAP workers with a fist pump as he exited the jail.
“Jashn manane ka waqt nahi aya hai, sangharsh ka waqt hai (This is not a time to celebrate. We have to struggle). Our party’s senior leaders Arvind Kejriwal, Satyendar Jain and Manish Sisodia are being kept behind bars. I have confidence that the locks of the jail will break and they will come out,” Sanjay Singh said.
Sanjay Singh, accompanied by his wife Anita Singh and daughter, will first go to Arvind Kejriwal’s residence to meet Delhi Chief Minister’s wife Sunita Kejriwal.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted Sanjay Singh bail in the case after the Enforcement Directorate said it had no objections. Singh was released from Delhi’s Tihar jail after the procession of the bail order by officials.
Notably, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his former deputy Manish Sisodia have been arrested in the same liquor policy case and are currently lodged in Tihar jail.
Earlier in the day, Sanjay Singh was sent to the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) Hospital for a pre-release medical check-up. He returned to jail after the check-up later this evening.
Singh was lodged in Tihar Jail since October last year after being arrested by the Enforcement Directorate.
