KERALA,JUN 14 : A special Indian Air Force plane, carrying the mortal remains of the 45 Indians killed in the Kuwait building fire tragedy, took off for Kerala in the wee hours of Friday.

It landed at the Cochin International Airport at nearly 10.30 am today.

Union Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh, who had confirmed the take-off of the aircraft, was also onboard.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also arrived at the Cochin International Airport soon after the aircraft landed.

Earlier, teams of police and ambulances were deployed at the Cochin airport.

On Thursday, the authorities in Kuwait identified the bodies of 45 Indians and three Filipino nationals killed in the tragic fire incident in a building housing foreign workers.

Kuwait has vowed to promptly investigate the incident and assured full support in repatriating the mortal remains of the victims.

At least 49 foreign workers were killed and 50 others injured in the fire on Wednesday at the seven-storey building where 196 migrant workers were staying in the southern city of Mangaf.

Kuwait Fire Force said the deadly fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.

In a statement, the force said that the conclusion was reached after field examination of the scene and the building where the fire broke out yesterday.

Meanwhile, Kuwaiti authorities were conducting DNA tests on the bodies of those killed in the devastating fire incident in southern Kuwait’s Mangaf area.
