Protest Against Employment Contract Scheme in Malkangiri

Malkangiri,30th September 2024 – The SC and ST Joint Action Committee in Malkangiri district has protested against the recently signed employment contract scheme for junior teachers. The committee, representing local tribal communities, submitted a demand letter to the Chief Minister through the District Collector, requesting intra-district recruitment for local candidates.

The letter highlighted that out of 555 applicants, only 225 junior teachers were given contracts, with a mere 1% being from the district itself. The committee argues that preference should be given to local candidates for employment within their district to support local development and reduce unemployment.

The signing event, held at Butiguda Primary School Centre, saw protests by the Adivasi Maha Sangh. They demanded the selection of more local candidates, causing a disruption at the venue. Many candidates, who arrived late, were unable to enter the premises and complete their agreements due to the protest.

The protest was led by local leaders including Prabhakar Hantal, Sonu Anugu, Domburu Bagh, and Ghanshyam Madkami. The BED teachers’ contract signing is scheduled for tomorrow, with further opposition expected if the demands for intra-district recruitment are not addressed.

The district administration is yet to respond to the demands made by the protesting groups.
