Malkangiri Union of Journalists Submits Memorandum to Odisha CM Seeking Pension and Protection Act

Malkangiri, Odisha,14th February 2025 – The Malkangiri Union of Journalists , a unit of the Odisha Union of Journalists (OUJ), submitted a memorandum to C.M. of Odisha through the District Collector and DM, Shri Ashish Eshwar Patil under the leadership of MUJ President Shri Deba Prasad Das along with Vice-President Satya Narayan Ponda.
The key demands include a minimum monthly pension of ₹25,000 for retired journalists and the immediate introduction of the Journalists Protection Act in the ongoing Assembly session. The proposed act aims to safeguard media professionals and ensure their safety while performing their duties.
The MUJ emphasized the crucial role journalists play in upholding democracy and stressed the need for government support. They urged swift action from the Chief Minister to address these pressing concerns.
The memorandum submission highlights growing concerns among journalists regarding financial security post-retirement and the increasing risks they face while reporting. The MUJ remains hopeful for a positive response from the state government.
