Bhubaneswar, Aug. 25: In a chilling incident, a woman was brutally beheaded inside her home in Deogaon village under Thakurmunda block of Mayurbhanj district on Saturday evening.

The victim, identified as Swami Boipai, was reportedly cooking when an unidentified assailant barged into the house and attacked her from behind with a sharp weapon, killing her instantly.

At the time, only the victim’s daughters-in-law were at home, but they were asleep and did not witness the attack. Her husband, Mandira Boipai, and sons had gone to watch a football match in the village.

Mandira discovered the gruesome scene around 8.30 pm when he returned home. “She was lying in a pool of blood. Initially, I thought she had collapsed due to illness, but then I saw she had been beheaded. I screamed in shock,” he told reporters.

The motive and identity of the attacker remain unclear. The local police has launched an investigation, with forensic teams examining the scene. A pair of slippers recovered from the house may provide crucial leads.

“My mother was cooking rice when the incident took place. My sisters-in-law were at home but asleep and knew nothing,” said her son, Ajit Boipai.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the area, with villagers demanding swift justice.
