JSW Steel Odisha Conducts Labour Codes
Awareness Session at Narayanposhi Mine

Barbil, Odisha: JSW Steel’s Odisha Mining Division conducted a comprehensive Labour Codes Awareness Session at its Narayanposhi Iron & Manganese Ore Mines with the objective of strengthening employees’ understanding of India’s newly unified labour regulations.
The programme witnessed the participation of 250 employees, including both direct and indirect workforce members, reaffirming JSW Steel’s commitment to fostering regulatory awareness and empowering its workforce.
Senior officials from the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Bhubaneswar Region-2, Mr. Nasina Balasubrahmaniam (DMS–Mining), Mr. K. Maheswara Reddy (DMS–Electrical), Mr. Shankarsan Behera (DMS–Mechanical), and Mr. Ulimela Siva Sankara (DDMS–Mining)—led the session and addressed the gathering.
During the programme, the DGMS dignitaries provided a detailed overview of the four new Labour Codes, which consolidate 29 existing labour laws into a streamlined and simplified regulatory framework.
Mr. Ram Shankar Sharma, Operations and Project Head, JSW Steel (Odisha Mining Division), Mr. Tapan Rath, Mines Manager of Narayanposhi, and other senior officials were present during the session.
Key topics discussed under the amended labour codes included: women employment, gender discrimination, maternity benefits, equal pay for equal work, working hours, health benefits, opportunity of working in night shifts for all women employees, extended family definition, gratuity and insurance coverage.
JSW Steel officials played an active role in assisting employees in understanding the practical implications of the revised regulations. Awareness pamphlets were distributed to all attendees to reinforce the learnings.
This initiative underscores JSW Steel’s dedication to promoting a culture of regulatory compliance, transparency, and safe workplace practices across its mining operations.
