Naveen expels senior leader Pravat Biswal from BJD on anti-party charge

Bhubaneswar, Feb. 28: Pravat Ranjan Biswal, a former Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA from Cuttack-Choudwar, was on Saturday expelled from the party on the charges of ‘anti-party’ and ‘indiscipline.’
The expulsion letter was served a few hours after he had reportedly a brawl with party president Naveen Patnaik at the latter’s residence over the selection of Dr Santrupta Mishra as party’s official Rajya Sabha candidate.
Pravat, while challenging Naveen’s decision of choosing Mishra over senior leaders, said such a move will demoralize the party’s rank and file.
“I told Naveen Patnaik to choose someone who was given his or blood and sweat for the party. Instead, he has chosen a person who joined the party recently,” Pravat said.
The former lawmaker also questioned the rationale behind opening of party’s bank account outside Odisha.
“I’m opposed to the idea of the party opening an official bank account outside the Odisha. This smacks of corruption. I will hold press conference tomorrow and disclose the nefarious activities going on in the party,” said Biswal.
