Tata Steel’s FAMD Shines with 22 Awards at DGMS Mines Safety Fortnight
-FAMD’s mines honoured for excellence in mine safety and compliance

Bhubaneswar, March 16 : Tata Steel’s Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division (FAMD) delivered an outstanding performance by winning 22 awards at the 43rd Annual Metalliferous Mines Safety Fortnight Observance – 2025, held in the State capital under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Bhubaneswar Region–1 and 2.
In Group A-5, Saruabil Chromite Mine emerged as a top performer, securing the first prizes in Innovation and Digitalisation and Publicity and Propaganda. The mine also won second prizes in Overall Performance, Lead Indicators, Mock Drill and Emergency Preparedness, and General Working (Opencast Mines), besides third prizes in Mechanical Maintenance and Drilling, Blasting and Handling of Explosives.
Kamarda Chromite Mine also made a strong mark in Group A-5, bagging the first prizes in Training, Health and Welfare (Opencast Mines) and SMP, Safety and Statutory Compliance (Opencast Mines), along with a second prize in Drilling, Blasting and Handling of Explosives (Opencast Mines).
In Group A-2, Joda West Iron and Manganese Mine demonstrated exemplary safety practices by winning first prizes in General Working, Drilling, Blasting and Handling of Explosives, and Innovation and Digitalisation. The mine also secured a second prize in SMP, Safety and Statutory Compliances and a third prize in Training, Health and Welfare.
In Group A-4, Bamebari Iron and Manganese Mine won second prizes in SMP, Safety and Statutory Compliances and Publicity and Propaganda, and a third prize in Mechanical Maintenance. Tiringpahar Iron and Manganese Mine further added to the tally with the first prize in Overall Performance, second prize in Innovation and Digitalisation, and third prizes in General Working and Training, Health and Welfare.
The awards were received on behalf of Tata Steel by Shambhu Nath Jha, Chief, Mines (FAMD); Naveen Shrivastava, Head (Mining), Saruabil and Kamarda Mines; and Rajesh Kumar Ranjan, Head, Manganese Group of Mines, along with other senior officials.
The programme was graced by Ujjwal Tah, Director General, DGMS, Dhanbad, as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present included senior DGMS officials, representatives from the Eastern Zone Mining Association, Tata Steel leadership, mine agents, union representatives, mine managers, officers, and employees from various mining companies.
