Bhubaneswar, March 17: Vedanta Aluminium has strengthened its safety credentials, with its Jamkhani Coal Mine emerging as the top performer at the Annual Mines Safety Fortnight (AMSF) Awards held in Sambalpur. The mine secured the Overall Best Mine Award, along with first prizes in the Contractor (MDO), Safety Management Plan, and Mine Lighting and Illumination categories.

Organised under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety, the awards recognise excellence in mine safety standards across the region. The honours were received by Vivek Uplanchiwar, Chief Operating Officer of Jamkhani Coal Mines, along with the mine team and its MDO partner.

A major highlight of the evaluation was a comprehensive inspection by an external AMSF team comprising ten experts, including an Internal Safety Organisation (ISO) observer and senior officials from Mahanadi Coalfields Limited. The assessment covered safety systems, operational discipline, and workforce engagement across key parameters.

Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said the recognition reflects the company’s “Zero Harm” philosophy. “These awards underline our commitment to disciplined operations, proactive safety practices, and continuous improvement. Safety is a core value, driven by behavioural change and personal responsibility at every level,” he noted.

The AMSF programme, held from December 2 to 15 at Jamkhani, saw participation from over 600 employees, partners, and workers. Centred on the theme “Aapka Pariwar Aapka Intezar Kar Raha Hai,” it emphasised behavioural safety, accountability, and adherence to best mining practices.

Beyond operations, Vedanta Aluminium continues to focus on community development in its areas of operation, supporting initiatives in education, healthcare, livelihoods, rural infrastructure, and sports. By working with local authorities and stakeholders, the company aims to integrate safety, sustainability, and socio-economic progress into its growth strategy.
