Tata Steel Observes World Environment Day Across Odisha

Bhubaneswar, June 5 : Tata Steel observed World Environment Day 2026 across its operations in Odisha under the global theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”, reaffirming its commitment to environmental stewardship, climate action and sustainable development. A series of plantation drives, awareness campaigns, cleanliness initiatives and community engagement programmes were organised across Tata Steel’s manufacturing units, mining operations and community development areas.
At Tata Steel Kalinganagar (TSK), more than 2,200 saplings were planted across the plant premises. The celebrations also featured painting, craft-making and essay competitions for schoolchildren and family members. An awareness session, quiz and photography contests for employees was organised along with plastic clean-up drives and removal of invasive species. At Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL), over 1,100 saplings were planted by employees and contract workers, while poster-making and quiz competitions for employees and their family members helped spread awareness on environmental conservation.
At Tata Steel Meramandali (TSM), more than 2,200 saplings were planted across the plant and township areas. The celebrations included a Padayatra (awareness walk), plantation drives, environmental pledge-taking, quizzes, drawing and awareness programmes for farmers, school students and community members. The activities witnessed enthusiastic participation from employees, their families and local residents. The celebrations will continue through June as part of Tata Steel’s Sustainability Month observance.
At Ore, Mines & Quarries (OMQ) Joda, a three-day environmental awareness programme engaged communities across six wards of Joda Municipality. The initiative included awareness campaigns, plantation of 1,500 saplings and distribution of saplings among local residents.
In the operational areas of Subarnarekha Port Private Limited (SPPL) and Ferro Alloys Plant (FAP), Balasore, Tata Steel Foundation conducted a Plastic-Free Dagara Beach campaign, waste management awareness drives, promotion of climate-resilient livelihoods and installation of water pots for birds and small animals. Meanwhile, FAP Athagarh, FAP Balasore and FAP Bamnipal collectively planted around 1,550 saplings, alongside poster competitions, awareness skits and other environmental awareness activities.
Through these initiatives, including the plantation of over 8,500 saplings across Odisha, Tata Steel engaged employees, families, students and local communities in collective action towards environmental conservation, reinforcing its commitment to building a greener, cleaner and more sustainable future.
