Morigaon/Assam, Sep 29: Congress has currently lost its place in Assam and has become completely weakened, while elderly Badruddin Ajmal should stop contesting elections and go for Haj, said Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed a massive election rally organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the School playground in Morigaon town today.

It may be mentioned that while Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma usually targets the Congress as his principal political opponent at almost every election meeting, he appeared to adopt a different approach at today’s rally, focusing mainly on development issues in an effort to attract voters towards the BJP.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that during the previous term, the state government had provided government jobs to 1.60 lakh unemployed youths. He said that another 2 lakh people would now be appointed to government jobs, and the recruitment process would begin shortly.

He further said that five lakh unemployed youths would be brought under the Chief Minister’s self-reliance scheme. Besides the semiconductor project at Jagiroad, three new industries each would be established in Morigaon and Jagiroad, he said.

The Chief Minister also announced that a dairy revolution would soon be launched in the state through the formation of dairy cooperative societies involving women.

He said that beneficiaries of the Orunodoi scheme would receive Rs 1,500 each before the forthcoming Durga Puja. He also announced that 40 lakh women in the state would be provided Rs 25,000 each under an entrepreneurship scheme.

He further announced that elections to the Tiwa Autonomous Council and municipal bodies would be held after the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency by-election.

Appealing to the people to vote for BJP candidate Debashish Sharma, the Chief Minister urged voters to ensure his victory by a margin of more than one lakh votes for the development and progress of the state.

BJP state president Dilip Saikia, MP Phani Bhushan Choudhury, ministers Keshab Mahanta, Pijush Hazarika and Ranoj Pegu, Morigaon MLA Ramakanta Deuri, MLA Pallab Lochan Das, and several other senior BJP leaders were present at the rally.
