Lanjigarh: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, organised a two-day eye screening camp in Laxmipur block through its Kodingamali (KDM) operations, in partnership with LV Prasad Eye Institute, Rayagada. The camp, held at CHC Laxmipur and Odiapentha Gram Panchayat, provided eye examinations to nearly 200 residents from nearby villages.
Several beneficiaries were diagnosed with cataract and pterygium, conditions that can impair vision if left untreated. Patients requiring advanced medical intervention were counselled and referred for further treatment. Those diagnosed with cataract and pterygium will receive surgical treatment at LV Prasad Eye Institute, Rayagada, while beneficiaries with refractive errors will be provided corrective spectacles.
The camp was inaugurated by Jhina Hikaka, former Member of Parliament from Koraput, in the presence of the CHC in-charge, medical staff, the Odiapentha Gram Panchayat Sarpanch, community representatives and local residents.
Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya, CEO, Alumina Business, Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Good health is fundamental to individual well-being and community progress. Access to quality healthcare services remains a key focus of our social development efforts. Through initiatives such as this eye screening camp, we aim to facilitate early diagnosis, timely treatment and improved healthcare access for rural communities.”
Dunguru Mandinga of Kenduwada village under Odiapentha Gram Panchayat, who underwent cataract surgery, said the camp had helped him regain clear vision after years of poor eyesight. He expressed gratitude to Vedanta Aluminium for restoring his confidence and improving his quality of life.
Vedanta Aluminium continues to undertake healthcare initiatives across its operational regions, including medical camps, awareness programmes, maternal and child healthcare support, and specialised medical interventions, with a focus on rural development and community well-being.
