Naveen says ‘If SIT probe is what is required, State Govt will take steps’ immediately
Bhubaneswar, Nov. 27: Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday expressed his readiness to order a probe by Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the alleged kidnapping and murder of Amrita Sneha Sahoo (5) of Nayagarh.
The CM, through a video conference interaction with the State Assembly, said, “If SIT Investigation is what is required State Government will take steps immediately in this regard and do it immediately.”
While the Congress expressed satisfaction over the CM’s readiness to order SIT probe, the BJP said it was not elated over the development as it had demanded an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
“We are firm on our demand for CBI probe into the Pari kidnapping and murder case. It has now been established she was killed by a well-organised organ trade racket. Has she been killed in a drowning case, it would have been understood differently. But the way she was killed proves that she was victim of organ trade racket,” Leader of the Opposition in State Assembly, Pradipta Kumar Naik said.
BJP leader Jayanarayan Mishra said, the CM’s stand on SIT probe is very ambiguous and lacked the state government’s seriousness to bring the culprits to book.
“The CM has used the word ‘if required’ in his press note. It clearly proves that the state government is not even ready for SIT probe. However, we want to clarify that our demands remains the same – resignation of state agriculture and higher education minister Arun Kumar Sahoo who has been patronising the key accused Babuli Nayak and CBI probe into the case,” said Mr Mishra.
