Pushkar Singh Dhami to replace Tirath Singh Rawat as chief minister of Uttarakhand
NEW DELHI,JULY 3: BJP’s Khatima MLA Pushkar Singh Dhami has been appointed as the new chief minister of Uttarakhand. The decision was taken during a legislative party meeting of the BJP on Saturday.
The oath-taking ceremony of Pushkar Singh Dhami is likely to take place today, sources said.
His appointment to the top post comes after former chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat handed over his resignation letter to Governor Baby Rani Maurya on Friday.
Pushkar Singh Dhami, 45, will be the third chief minister of Uttarakhand in four months. His predecessor, Tirath Singh Rawat, took oath as Uttarakhand’s chief minister on March 10 this year, replacing Trivendra Singh Rawat.
Assembly elections are due in Uttarakhand next year.
Earlier, in a letter to BJP national president JP Nadda, Tirath Singh Rawat had said he was offering to resign in order to “avoid a constitutional crisis” in the state.
