Anti-terror agency team attacked in Bengal’s East Medinipur, officer injured
WEST BENGAL,APR 6: A team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was attacked in Bengal’s East Medinipur district during a raid on Saturday morning. An officer of the anti-terror agency has been injured in the attack that happened in the Bhupitaninagar area.
A source told India Today that a NIA team arrived in Bhupitaninagar to raid in connection with a blast that happened there. During the search operation, a mob suddenly attacked the team, resulting in a vehicle’s windscreen being broken.
An NIA source told India Today that the local police station was informed beforehand about the raid, and yet proper security arrangements were not put in place.
According to police sources, however, the NIA team went to Bhupitaninagar at 5.30 am – much earlier than they were supposed to – and then called for reinforcements.
A complaint has been filed at the local police station by the NIA against Manabendra Jana and other unidentified persons. The anti-terror agency had gone to Bhupitaninagar to arrest Jana in the blast case.
