NEW DELHI,APR 22 : A Delhi court on Monday rejected jailed Chief Minister Arvind Kerjiwal’s plea seeking daily consultation with his family doctor via video call. The court, however, directed the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS-Delhi) to constitute a medical board to determine whether he needs insulin to control his sugar levels and consider his other medical issues.

Special Judge for CBI and ED cases Kaveri Baweja passed the order stating that requisite medical treatment should be provided to Arvind Kejriwal. Baweja also stated that the AIIMS medical board will include senior endocrinologists and diabetologists.

The court order came amid allegations by AAP that the Delhi Chief Minister is not getting proper medical treatment in Tihar jail where he has been lodged since April 1 in an alleged money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped liquor policy case.

Even Kejriwal, last week, alleged he was not being administered insulin in jail leading to an “alarming” rise in his blood sugar levels.

The Chief Minister, who is a Type-2 diabetes patient, wrote to the Superintendent of Tihar jail claiming he has been asking for insulin every day and that AIIMS doctors never said there was no reason to worry about his diabetic condition.

Meanwhile, the Tihar administration clarified that they facilitated a video conference for Arvind Kejriwal with senior specialists from AIIMS. During this interaction, neither did Kejriwal raise the issue of insulin, nor was it suggested by the attending doctors.

To this, the AAP chief alleged that the Tihar administration issued a “false and misleading” statement under “political pressure”.

“This is false. I have raised the issue of insulin for 10 days, every day, multiple times. I showed my high sugar levels to every doctor who came to see me. I showed them that there were 3 peaks in the sugar level every day — between 250-320,” Kejriwal said in his letter.

“I also showed them that my fasting sugar level was in the range of 160-200 every day. Almost every day, I demanded insulin. Then how could you make such a statement that I never raised the issue of insulin?” the latter added.

Several AAP leaders have also accused Tihar officials of denying insulin to Kejriwal under political pressure and claimed a “conspiracy” to “kill” the Chief Minister.
