Balasore, July 15: After four years of arresting Mir Sahiruddin, managing director of chit fund firm Green Ray International Limited (GRIL),  the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested his two brothers from Jaleswar area in Odisha’s Balasore district in connection with the multiple frauds committed by the company.

The two arrested – Mir Sahimat alia Kalu and Mir Jamiruddin – were directors of GRIL, one of the 44 chit fund companies being probed by CBI following a Supreme Court directive.

The company has allegedly duped investors of over Rs 1,000 crore in Odisha and other states and diverted the money to Dubai and Nigeria through brokers.

Acting on intelligence input, a team from CBI headquarters here led by DSP Ashok Kumar conducted a raid in Jaleswar area and arrested the two.

The CBI had arrested Mir Sahiruddin from Kolkata in February, 2017, a few days after he returned to India from Bangladesh.

The Odisha Crime Branch which earlier probed the chit fund case had frozen dozens of bank accounts of the prime accused and seized huge quantities of gold and silver coins from his possession.

The CBI suspected Sahiruddin’s underworld links in Dubai, Nigeria, and Bangladesh.

Sahiruddin had earlier denied any political links in his business. He had said that he had not received any political patronage from any leader.
