Bhubaneswar @5 – Celebrating Five Years of the Permanent Campus

Bhubaneswar/Odisha,Aug 20 : Skill Development Institute (SDI) Bhubaneswar is commemorating five years of its permanent campus on 20 August 2026, marking an important milestone in its journey towards becoming a nationally significant institution for skill development and future-ready talent.
Established under the Skill India Mission of the Government of India and to support the theme of Skilled in Odisha , SDI Bhubaneswar is a flagship CSR initiative of the Oil & Gas PSUs under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, with IndianOil as the Anchor Investor and managing organisation.
The institute was conceived with a clear objective – to equip India’s youth with industry-relevant skills, enhance employability and prepare them for emerging opportunities.
From Vision to a National-Standard Skill Campus
The Government of Odisha extended around 47 acres of land for establishing this permanent campus. Its foundation stone was laid by the Hon’ble President of India in 2018, and the permanent campus was dedicated to the Nation on 20 August 2021.
The initiative has since been strengthened under the Skill India Mission of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, with continued support from the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas under the leadership of Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, the Oil & Gas PSUs and IndianOil.
The institute was envisaged and architected by Shri Dharmendra Pradhan during his tenure as Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, with the vision of developing a Mega Model Multi-Skilling Institute of national standards.
With an overall project investment of around ₹500 crore, SDI Bhubaneswar today has developed national-standard training and residential infrastructure along with strong industry collaborations.
10,000+ Youth Skilled
Over the years, SDI Bhubaneswar has progressively expanded its training portfolio and industry partnerships. More than 10,000 youth have graduated from the institute and moved forward in their careers.
The institute has developed collaborations with leading organisations including Schneider Electric, Siemens, Kemppi, LIXIL and NTTF, among others, bringing industry expertise and technology closer to skill training.
NSDC has extended significant support to SDI Bhubaneswar, particularly in operationalising the Skill India International Centre and establishing the Media Sector Centre of Excellence and HVAC Centre of Excellence on the campus.
The Odisha Skill Development Authority has also been continuouls guiding in strengthening the institute and its role within the larger skill ecosystem of the state Odisha.
On this significant occasion Chief secretary Anu Garg emphasized, “Odisha’s focus on developing skills beyond mining and metallurgy to achieve GSDP targets and create employment opportunities. Highlighting the vision “Skilled in Odisha, Skilling for the World,” she said girls are now gaining advanced skills through SDI, supported by global expertise in technical, soft and language skills. She also highlighted the annual renewal of 20% of the WSC syllabus to keep training market-relevant, along with the WSC-ITEES Singapore partnership, as part of the government’s focus on ensuring the right skills lead to the right placements.”
Emerging as a Hub for Future Skills
SDI Bhubaneswar is now expanding beyond conventional skilling into future and emerging skill domains.
Its Cyber Security Gurukul, in collaboration with I Aspire Mind Foundation , has trained more than 1,000 graduate engineers, who have subsequently joined premium IT Companies across country.
The institute’s association with GFTN Singapore for FinTech training under the Government of Odisha’s BharatNetra initiative has further added a global dimension to its training ecosystem. More than 500 trainees have graduated from the programme.
The skill development authorities from sattes of India are also engaging with SDI Bhubaneswar, progressively strengthening its national footprint.
The Journey Ahead
The completion of five years of the permanent campus is not merely an anniversary; it represents the transition of SDI Bhubaneswar into its next phase of growth.
The institute now aims to deepen its engagement in future skills, emerging technologies, industry-led training, international skilling and stronger partnerships with technical institutions and employers.
