Karnataka,July 28 :  A BJP worker was arrested on Friday for her tweet against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his family in connection with the Udupi case where a student was allegedly filmed by others in her college washroom. She was released on bail afterwards.

The worker, Shakunthala, had shared a screenshot of a tweet by the official handle of Karnataka Congress and accused the ruling party of labelling the incident “child’s play”. The worker also made a personal jibe at Siddaramaiah, saying what he would have done if his family members were involved.

Earlier, the Karnataka Congress said the BJP was “politicising” a case of “child’s play” in Udupi for political gains.

An FIR was filed against Shakunthala based on a complaint by an individual named Hanamantray at the High Grounds Police Station.

Udupi video scandal: No hidden cameras in college washroom, says women’s panel

UDUPI VIDEO CASE

Three students — Alimatul Shaifa, Shabanaz and Aliya — were suspended from a medical college in Udupi for allegedly placing video cameras in the women’s washrooms to record a student showering or using the toilets. The police have denied any communal angle in the case after Rashmi Samant, an activist, tweeted about the incident and said “unsuspecting Hindu girls” were blackmailed with naked photographs.

Later, she told India Today that cops came to her home to “intimidate” her for her tweet.

The BJP then accused the Congress government in Karnataka of “intimidation and harassment against Hindus for standing against institutional persecution.” “On the instruction of Jihadi elements, the Siddaramaiah govt has unleashed its police force to target an Indian citizen for tweeting about the students Alimatul Shaifa, Shabanaz and Aliya, who secretly placed cameras to record videos of their Hindu classmates,” the Karnataka BJP said in a tweet.
