Bhubaneswar, May 30: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday reportedly arrested Chintan Raghuvamshi, Deputy Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Bhubaneswar, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20 lakh.

The arrest came after a marathon 12-hour interrogation that began on Thursday evening. Following the questioning, Raghuvamshi was taken for a mandatory medical examination at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, where he was formally declared arrested.

According to CBI sources, Raghuvamshi was allegedly involved in manipulating proceedings in a high-profile mining case. He was reportedly caught red-handed while accepting Rs 20 lakh — said to be the first installment of an Rs 50 lakh payoff — to influence the closure of an investigation against mining operators.

The CBI had reportedly been keeping a close watch on the senior ED officer for several weeks after receiving credible intelligence inputs about his alleged involvement in corrupt practices. It is believed that Raghuvamshi was negotiating with certain mine operators to settle the case in exchange for hefty bribes.

The arrest of such a high-ranking official from the Enforcement Directorate — an agency tasked with probing financial crimes — has sent shockwaves through the investigative community, raising serious questions about internal accountability and integrity within premier institutions.

Neither the CBI nor the ED has issued an official statement regarding the arrest so far.
