Chirag Paswan hugs estranged uncle Pashupati Paras day after embracing NDA
New delhi,July 19: One of the key highlights of the NDA meeting that took place in New Delhi on Tuesday was Chirag Paswan hugging his estranged uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras, who had engineered a split in Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) formed by Chirag’s father and former Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan.
Chirag Paswan met his uncle a day after joining the BJP-led NDA of which his uncle had already been a part.
The meeting comes hours after Chirag Pawas asserted that his party would contest from Bihar’s Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency, currently the main point of contention between the uncle-nephew duo.
Pashupati Kumar Paras became the Hajipur MP in 2019 and was inducted into the Union Cabinet after splitting the LJP, shortly after Ram Vilas Paswan’s demise.
However, Paras said he would not give up his Hajipur Lok Sabha seat for his nephew.
Alliances built on negative perception always fail, says PM Modi at NDA meet
On the other hand, Chirag Paswan has reasoned that Ram Vilas Paswan won from Hajipur and the seat is considered his legacy.
Retorting to Chiraj’s claim, Pashupati Kumar Paras said, he was the “political successor” of his elder brother Ram Vilas Paswan and that Chirag could claim “only” the financial assets (sampatti) of his father.
BJP has been seeking Pashupati Paras and Chirag Paswan to unite and contest the 2024 elections under the Lok Janshakti Party.
Last year, Pashupati Paras had rejected the possibility of merging his party with Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas) until the latter made a public apology.
Pashupati Paras, however, had said that he did not have any problem with Chirag Paswan returning to the NDA fold.
