BHUBANESWAR, JULY 4 : It was a vision to behold.  Twenty-two days after taking oath as chief minister (CM) of the state, Odisha’s new CM Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday entered the state secretariat building (Lok Seva Bhawan) and discharged his responsibilities from his official chamber.

What was quite striking is that Majhi got down from his vehicle before climbing the stairs of the secretariat building and bowed down as a mark of respect to the state administration’s highest office from where the CM and all other ministers along with the bureaucrats serve the people.

The CM was led to his official chamber by senior bureaucrats and sat in his chair amidst chanting of mantras by priests. Soon after sitting in the CM’s chair, Majhi took a slew of decisions, apart from making some groundbreaking announcements for the promotion and preservation of Odia culture.

He informed that all government work will be executed in Odia language, and a commission will be formed for the promotion and preservation of the language.

“My government has decided to give importance to socio-economic and cultural development of the state. Importance will also be given towards the promotion and preservation of Odia ‘Asmita’. Odia language will be widely used in government work. If needed, the Odisha Official Language Act will be amended,” said the Chief Minister.

Majhi further said that Lalit Kala Akademi will be reconstituted while a Translation Academy and an Odia Asmita Bhawan will also be set up.

“Odissi Research Centre will be activated. Quality research on Odia ‘Asmita’ will be encouraged. Efforts will be made to increase reading habits among the people and the library movement will be widened. For the promotion of Odia language and literature, a Translation Academy will be set up. Efforts will be made for modern and simple use of technology in the field of language. Odia Asmita Bhawan will also be set up. The Language Commission will be set up and the government work will be executed in Odia language. Odia Bhasha Pratisthan will be reconstituted,” said Majhi.

“Samanwita Sanskruti Bhawan will be set up in all districts. Art and culture of the districts will be encouraged. Special consideration will be made to appoint Odia teachers in high schools across the State. Paika Academy and Memorial work in Barunei will be accelerated. Our government is committed to giving emphasis to various heritage sites in our State,” he added.
