Malkangiri, March 15, 2024 – In a significant development, two active members of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee under the South Bastar Division of the CPI Maoist party surrendered today before the Deputy Inspector General DIG of Police, SWR, and the Superintendent of Police in Malkangiri.
Identified as Kadti Hurra alias Samir alias Sanjay, and Ganga Kartami alias Ganga, both hailed from Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district. Kadti Hurra, an Area Committee Member (ACM) of the Kistaram Assembly Constituency , and Ganga Kartami, an ACM of the Konta AC, had rewards announced on their heads.
Koraput DIG Charan Singh Meena, addressing a press conference at the District Police Office, revealed that Malkangiri shares borders with Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, where the two surrendered Maoists operated.
Kadti Hurra, who joined the CPI Maoist in 2001, rose through the ranks over the years, actively participating in numerous Naxal activities. Ganga Kartami, with a similar trajectory, joined the Maoist ranks in 2001 and was involved in various insurgent activities until his surrender.
According to DIG Meena, the surrender came as a result of sustained police operations and the allure of rehabilitation schemes offered by the government, promising a peaceful life with their families.
Both surrendered rebels will now benefit from the government’s rehabilitation policy, receiving necessary facilities and support to reintegrate into society. Mr. Meena assured that Malkangiri SP Nitesh Wadhwani and other officers would oversee their rehabilitation process.
The surrender of these Maoist insurgents marks a positive step towards peace and development in the region. It underscores the effectiveness of law enforcement efforts and the government’s commitment to providing avenues for disillusioned rebels to return to mainstream society.
