Adani Foundation helps farmers reap rich harvests; 58 per cent jump in yield

Dhamra, Dec 2: To increase farmer’s production and income, Adani Foundation, the CSR arm of Adani Dhamra Port, Dhamra have undertaken 50.0 Acre paddy demonstration by adopting Integrated Crop Management (ICM) practice with the technical guidance of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and Department of Agriculture & Farmer’s Empowerment, Bhadrak in 13 villages of Dosinga, Kaithakhola, Jagula, Karanjamal, Karanpali & Balimunda GPs in the financial year 2021-22.

The Field Day & Crop Cutting was organized at Kuamara & Balimunda villages through Farmers Field School training program. In this training program 38 small and marginal farmers of Balimunda GP were actively participated and the farmers were visited to demonstration field. The training program was presided by Mr. Girija Shankar Nayak, President, Mr. Chitta Ranjan Pradhan, Secretary and Mr. Bhavesh Giri, Treasurer of Maa Jahaj Mangala Farmers club formed in facilitation by Adani Foundation at Balimunda GP. At the outset, the paddy grower shared their experience by introducing of Truthful Level improved Kamini paddy seeds having 135-145 days crop duration & stem borer, white fly, aphids tolerance variety, suitable time for nursery raising & transplanting, use of balanced fertilizers in three splits, use of organic concentrates before transplanting, benefits by using of Mandawa weeder in three stages of demonstration paddy field etc. The two numbers of Crop Cutting & Field day  program was organized in demonstration filed of Sri Ashes Das, Kuamara village & Sri Girija Shankar Nayak, Balimunda village with an area of 25 Sq. Mt. each plot randomly selected to assume the expected yield over the demonstration plot. The crop was harvested, cleaned & measured among the farmers. The yield data recorded 19.2 & 21.2 Kg from 25 Sq. Mt and evaluated expected yield per acre shared among the farmers which comes to 30.72 & 34.24 quintal per acre after reducing 10% moisture content present in the grain.

Despite of the week long un-certain rainfall in October 2021 leading to massive water logging in the paddy field, 35 –58% yield enhancement has been recorded by the farmers during the harvesting in compared to traditional method of paddy cultivation undertaken in past. “We are encouraged and decided to adopt the SRI principles & technology in next Kharif season 2022 and times to come” – said Sri Girija Shankar Nayak, Prisident, Maa Jahaj Mangal Farmers Club, Balimunda.
