DHH Malkangiri hosts district level observance of World Malaria Day

Malkangiri, Odisha 25 April – The District Health Committee in collaboration with Malaria No More organized a district-level World Malaria Day observance at DHH Malkangiri to create awareness about the disease and its prevention. The event was attended by health workers, ASHA workers, and teachers.
The Chief District Medical Officer Dr. Prafulla Nanda was the chief guest at the event. In his address, he emphasized the important role played by teachers, ASHA workers, and health workers in reducing the cases of Malaria in Malkangiri District.
Dr. Nanda highlighted the efforts taken by the District Health Committee to combat Malaria in the region. He stated that the District Health Committee, in the last seven years, has successfully reduced the number of Malaria cases from 40,000 to 4,000.
The CDMO also spoke about the government’s plans to end Malaria by 2030 and urged everyone to work towards this goal.
The event saw a number of informative sessions on Malaria prevention, including the use of mosquito nets and the importance of maintaining proper sanitation.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), India accounted for 88% of Malaria cases in the South-East Asia region in 2019. However, the country has made significant progress in reducing Malaria cases in recent years. The observance of World Malaria Day serves as a reminder of the need to continue efforts to eliminate Malaria from the country.
Overall, the event was a great success in creating awareness about Malaria and its prevention measures. The District Health Centre and Malaria No More have vowed to continue their efforts to eliminate the disease from Malkangiri .
