A Winning Development: Eminent liver transplant experts Dr Ashim Das & Dr Ashok Kumar Choudhury join KIMS

Bhubaneswar, April 27: Two eminent pioneers in liver transplant programme – Dr Ashim Das and Dr Ashok Kumar Choudhury who have earned critical recognition internationally in their field have joined the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Bhubaneswar. Their association with KIMS comes at a time when the premier healthcare facility in Odisha is ramping up infrastructure to offer advanced healthcare services at affordable costs in all super specialty wings.
Dr Ashim Das, member of the Royal College of Pathology and Fellow of the Royal College of Pathology London, has joined KIMS as a visiting Professor in Hepatopathology.
Dr Das, who has worked as a faculty in Histopathology in PGIMER Chandigarh from 1990 till 2021, is a respected name internationally. His association will not only enhance and strengthen the healthcare facilities in KIMS and its constituent Pradyumna Bal Memorial Hospital (PBMH), but will help students benefit from his rich experience in the area of liver pathology. He will guide MD, DM and Ph.D scholars and the team of faculties in the KIMS’ Liver Transplant Programme.
An alumnus of Kolkata University, Dr Das has undergone MD training in Pathology from PGIMER Chandigarh in 1987. Subsequently, he has done his Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in Pathology. He is an astute researcher, teacher and fellow of several national and international societies.
He has also guided several MD and PhD. students, conducted several international workshops and seminars. Besides, he has several extra-mural grants from ICMR, VT DST intra-mural grants. Dr. Das has been a visiting Professor at JIPMER, Pondicherry.
Along with Dr Das, KIMS has added another feather to its cap with the joining of Dr. Ashok Kumar Choudhury, an MD in Medicine. He has joined as the Honorary Professor in the Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology. A well-known clinician, Dr Choudhury possesses 12 years of experience in Transplant Hepatology at the prestigious Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences (ILBS), New Delhi.
Actively engaged in research and social work, Dr Choudhury has published 84 original research articles guidelines and has 2,873 citations and high H-index to his credit. Dr. Choudhury has been a visiting faculty to Hum Lee Liver Transplant Centre, Richmond USA and Fellow observer in Liver Intensive Therapy Unit, King’s College Hospital London. He is also a life member of several national and international societies.
Dr Choudhury will be of great help in teaching UG, PG and DM students of KIMS, besides guiding them in research and coordinating liver transplant programmes of KIMS and PBMH.
Dr Choudhury holds an illustrious academic record. He is an alumnus of SCB Medical College, Cuttack where he did his MBBS and MD (Medicine) and emerged as the best graduate in the 2003 batch MBBS, securing Honours in three subjects. He was awarded Bijay Kumar Patra Gold Medal JN Bose Gold Medal and Nabakishore Das Gold Medal from Utkal University. He received the best student award from API Odisha, Rotary Club and Dr, Gopal Ch. Patnaik award. He did his DM in Hepatology from ILBS.
