Empowering Silk City: TPSODL Enhances Power Infrastructure in Berhampur
By Prakash Panigrahi
Berhampur, Dec.23 : TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) has achieved a significant milestone by installing its first-ever 16 MVA Power Transformer (PTR) at the Nimakhandi Primary Substation (PSS) in Berhampur. This marks a major step in strengthening the power infrastructure of the region and ensuring a reliable power supply to thousands of residents.
Out of the 16 MVA capacity, 12.5 MVA is currently operational, effectively meeting the region’s existing power demand while leaving room for future scalability. Prior to this installation, the area depended on an 8 MVA PTR, which often faced challenges in handling the growing power requirements.
The new PTR has resolved long-standing issues of overload and ensures reliable power supply to over 7,000 consumers in critical areas, including Jagdalpur, Srikhetra vihar, Nimakhandi, Lochapada Market, Govinda Vihar, Shakti Nagar, Ruby Eye Hospital, and surrounding regions. These areas represent some of the busiest and most vital zones of Berhampur.
Mr. Amit Kumar Garg, CEO of TPSODL, said, “Meeting the increasing power demand has always been our priority. We are taking timely steps to enhance infrastructure and ensure a reliable power supply. The installation of this new PTR demonstrates our commitment to addressing the evolving needs of the community.”
A pioneering feature of this installation is the introduction of advanced Nitrogen Injected Fire Protection System (NIFPS) technology, designed to prevent potential explosions and fires caused by internal or external faults. The NIFPS system automatically releases nitrogen to regulate abnormal heating, ensuring enhanced safety and operational reliability.
This state-of-the-art upgrade has significantly improved the reliability and efficiency of Berhampur’s power supply system, positioning TPSODL as a leader in delivering innovative and customer-centric energy solutions.
