Empty chair on stage as Arvind Kejriwal skips event ‘hijacked’ by Centre
New Delhi, july 24: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s chair remained empty at the Delhi government event at the Asola Wildlife Sanctuary on Sunday that he was to attend alongside Governor LG VK Saxena hours after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused the BJP-led Centre of hijacking the programme.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai had alleged that the Centre had hijacked a Delhi government event at the Asola Wildlife Sanctuary by sending a team of Delhi Police to the event on Saturday.
The minister alleged that the Delhi Police officials pasted banners carrying pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on already installed banners of ‘Van Mahotsav’ programme at the venue last night.
Gopal Rai also claimed the Prime Minister’s Office directed the Delhi Police to ruin the event. Rai had already expressed that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was supposed to attend the event, would skip it after whatever transpired. He also added that the Delhi Police warned people not to touch the banners carrying pictures of PM Modi.
“We don’t want to fight but the government program was made political, so both CM and I are not going,” Gopal Rai said.
The ‘Van Mahotsav’ program has been going on in Delhi since July 11. At the event, one lakh trees are to be planted as a part of the programme. Sunday, July 24, is the last day of the event.
