Fisherman dies after boat capsizes in Odisha’s Chitrakonda reservoir

Malkangiri ,May 26 : A fisherman died while two others managed to save their lives by swimming ashore after a boat carrying them capsized in the Chitrakonda reservoir in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Wednesday evening.
While the deceased was identified as Krupa Benia, two others who managed to swim to safety are Hari Sagaria and Kailash Nayak. They are residents of nearby Dyke-3 village.
According to sources, Krupa, Hari and Kailash had gone to the reservoir to catch fish. They were catching fish near Singaram. In the evening, when they were returning they were caught up in a gale accompanied by rainfall. Consequently, the boat capsized.
While Hari and Kailash managed to swim ashore, they couldn’t find Shirpa. They immediately informed the villagers who launched a rescue operation. However, they had to suspend the search operation midway due to darkness.
The villagers resumed the operation on Thursday morning. Later, a team of the fire services department also joined them. They recovered the body of the missing fisherman.
