NEW DELHI,OCTO 9: The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the poll schedule for the upcoming Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram.

The first one to go to the poll will be Mizoram, on November 7 followed by Chhattisgarh on November 7 and November 17 on November 17, followed by Rajasthan on November 23 and Telangana on November 30.

The Assembly elections this year are extremely significant as they come just months before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and will reflect the mood of the electorate in the run-up to the general elections.

At present, there is a BJP government in Madhya Pradesh led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh have Congress governments led by Ashok Gehlot and Bhupesh Baghel respectively.

Telangana, on the other hand, has the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) government led by K Chandrasekhar Rao whereas the Mizo National Front (MNF), a BJP ally, is in power in Mizoram.

The terms of the legislative assemblies in Telangana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh are set to conclude on various dates in January 2024, while the term of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly will end on December 17 this year.

Total number of assembly constituencies in the upcoming elections is 679

A total of one-sixth of the total assembly constituencies in India will be involved in the election 16.14 cr, or one-sixth of the total electorate in India, will participate in this election.

Ahead of the announcement of election dates to five State Assemblies, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar says, “In 40 days we visited all 5 States and held discussions with political parties, Central and State enforcement agencies.

16 lakh new voters have been enrolled to vote in these five states

There will be 177 lakh polling stations across these five states says, the Chief Commissioner of EC.

All eligible electorate should add their number if they are not on the electoral rolls

ECI’s focus is on enrolling everyone into the electoral rolls

CEC: We will focus on making polling inclusive, including for transgenders

Elderly voters can vote from home within a 5-day window

Vigil app can be used to alert about any inducements or corruption

We will react to all Vigil complaints within 100 minutes

All political parties have to report contributions and donations received by 31 October

Political parties have to give their annual expense reports in digital form to ECI

Introducing an election seizure system for the first time

All state and central agency has to enter details of seizures in a central database.
