Good News: HIV positive woman with Covid-19 infection safely delivers baby

Rayagada, May 16: Amid all gloom, it’s a good piece of news. An HIV positive woman diagnosed with Covid-19 safely given birth to a baby in Odisha’s Ganjam district, reports said on Sunday.

The newborn girl has tested negative for deadly Coronavirus and is stated to be in good condition.

According to reports, the HIV positive woman, a resident of Pattapur village in Ganjam district, was admitted to the City Hospital in Berhampur after she complained of labour pain a week ago. She underwent Covid test at the hospital before delivery and the result came out positive.

On Saturday, the woman delivered a baby girl through C-section.

Following delivery, the Covid test was conducted on the newborn and she was found negative for the deadly virus.

Expressing pleasure over safe delivery of the baby, the doctors and nurses of the City Hospital celebrated the occasion by cutting a cake on the premises of the healthcare facility.

Hospital authorities said both the mother and her baby were doing well.

 An HIV test of the newborn will be conducted after 6 weeks, the hospital authorities said.

On Sunday, the single-day Covid tally in Odisha rose by 11, 732 numbers, pushing the cumulative positive count to 6,12,224 while the total death toll climbed to 2,313 with 19 more fatalities reported during the period.

Khurdha district reported maximum four deaths followed by Angul which saw three Covid related fatalities in last 24 hours.

Similarly, 10,781 patients recovered in the state, taking the total recoveries to 5,02,455.
