Malkangiri, September 5, 2023 – In a significant initiative to boost voter registration and civic engagement, the “I am Mita” campaign was launched today at the DRDA Conference Hall in Malkangiri. The event, “Mun Bi Mita,” witnessed a prominent gathering of government officials, educators, and students.

Sri. Vishal Singh, District Magistrate and District Election Officer, inaugurated the program and chaired the meeting. He was joined by key figures including Mr. Vedbar Pradhan, ADM and Additional Election Officer, Dr. Akshay Kumar Khemundu, Electoral Officer Registration Officer and Sub Collector, Ms. Prabhati Jhadia, Assistant Electoral Registration Officer and Block Development Officer, Malkangiri, and Mr. Ashok Kumar Chakravathi, Assistant District Magistrate.

Over 150 students from higher secondary schools and colleges across Malkangiri district, along with faculty, government officials, and media personnel, actively participated in the event.

Dr. Akshay Kumar Khemundu introduced the guests and explained the purpose of the “Mun Bi Mita” sponsored program. He highlighted that the initiative, launched in collaboration with the Election Commission of the Government of India and the Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha, aims to increase voter registration in Malkangiri district.

Selected students, designated as “I am Mita” ambassadors, will play a pivotal role in raising awareness among their peers who will turn 18 years old by January 1, 2024. They will also target unregistered voters aged 18 and above in their respective areas, encouraging them to enroll in the voter list.

During the event, a song related to the “Mu Bi Mita” program was launched. District Magistrate Vishal Singh and Election Officer Dr. Akshay Kumar Khemundu encouraged students to actively participate in the campaign, urging them to spread awareness about voter registration and enlist more names.

The “I am Mita” campaign represents a crucial step in promoting civic participation and strengthening the democratic process in Malkangiri district.
