Top Opposition leaders held a dinner meeting on Monday to formalise the agenda for Tuesday’s closed-door talks. The formal talks took place from 11 am to 4 pm.

The Congress and 25 other parties have said that the crucial meeting will shape the narrative and may prove to be a “game changer” for the Indian political landscape.

The opposition parties are likely to announce two sub-committees – one for finalising the common minimum programme along with communication points and another to create a blueprint on issues that need to be pursued jointly.

The opposition parties will also try and identify potential areas of conflict and confrontation that leaders may prefer to skip in a bid to maintain unity in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls.

BJP-LED NDA MEETING

Coinciding with the Opposition meeting, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is also holding a gathering in Delhi, where some new allies are expected to join the ruling BJP-led coalition.

A total of 38 parties are slated to attend the Delhi conclave, where the BJP is eager to display a strong show of solidarity. This event marks the first NDA meeting during PM Modi’s second term, highlighting the party’s commitment to forming alliances at a time when opposition parties have been actively working towards unity in preparation for the 2024 elections.
