Malkangiri, January 5: The Malkangiri Union of Journalists today paid homage to Mukesh Chandrakar, a young journalist from Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, who was brutally murdered on January 1 by unidentified assailants. In a solemn ceremony led by Deba Prasad Das, President of the Union, members observed a moment of silence in honor of Chandrakar’s courageous journalism.

Mukesh Chandrakar had recently exposed massive corruption in a road construction project in Bijapur through his news channel. Following his revelations, the government had ordered a probe into the alleged irregularities. It is suspected that the murder could be linked to his investigative reporting, with allegations pointing toward contractor Suresh Chandrakar, who may have orchestrated the crime out of vengeance.

Speaking on the occasion, Deba Prasad Das condemned the incident and demanded swift and stringent action against those responsible for the heinous act. “Such attacks on journalists undermine the freedom of the press and the voice of truth. Authorities must ensure that justice is delivered,” he stated.

Prominent journalists including Ashim Biswas, Chakradhar Patnaik, Iswar Addanki, Jadupati Mohany, Chandan Barik,Prakash Patnaik, and Sankar Pal were present at the tribute event. The gathering resolved to continue advocating for the safety and rights of journalists, emphasizing the importance of press freedom in a democratic society.

The murder of Mukesh Chandrakar has sparked outrage among the journalistic fraternity and civil society, with growing demands for the perpetrators to be brought to justice swiftly.
