Karnataka Eid clash: 43 arrested, Siddaramaiah says ‘Won’t tolerate attack on…’
Karnataka,Octo 2 : A day after tension gripped Karnataka’s Shivamogga district as two communities clashed during the Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi processions near Ragigudda, 43 people involved in the unrest were arrested on Monday.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the government will not tolerate people throwing stones at religious processions of other religions.
The Shivamogga district administration imposed section 144 in Ragigudda on Monday. CM Siddaramiah assured people that, currently, the situation is under control.
“Without any choice, the police had to pelt back stones. More than 43 of them have been arrested. In any religious event, it’s wrong for others to pelt stones that disturb the religious procession of others. Our government will not tolerate such activities,” said Siddarmaiah.
Milad-un-Nabi processions, which are usually marked by large gatherings and celebrations, were abruptly halted due to the ensuing chaos.
Protesters attempted to breach police barricades, prompting the police to resort to a lathi charge to disperse the crowd. Nearly five people were injured, said police.
