Kendrapara: Man severs genital of friend for allegedly making advance towards wife

Kendrapara, April 3: A man on Saturday night allegedly severed his friend’s genitals with a knife at Pentha beach in Odisha’s Kendrapara district, report said on Monday.
TThe victim was admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment while the accused went absconding after committing the act.
According to reports, victim Bhagabat Das of Balipatna village in Pattamundai area and accused Akshay Rout of Aali area became friends after knowing each other on social media platform Facebook.
On Saturday night, Akshay reached Bhagabat’s house in his auto-rickshaw and told the latter to go to the beach with him for an outing.
Sources said at the beach, both the friends consumed liquor to their hearts’ content. After Bhagabat fell asleep under the influence of liquor, Akshay took out a knife from the vehicle, slit Bhagabat’s genital and fled the spot.
A profusely bleeding Bhagabat telephoned his family members to inform them about the matter. They rushed to the place, rescued him and took him to a nearby hospital.
As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the SCB Hospital.
The police has seized the three-wheeler and started an investigation into the incident.
Though the reason behind the heinous crime was yet to be ascertained, sources said the accused nursed a grudge against Bhagabat as the latter made advances towards his wife.
The police has formed a special team to arrest the accused.
