Kidnap-murder case accused attempts suicide on last day of police remand

Bhubaneswar, April 5: Amit Sharma, the key accused in kidnapping and killing of businessman’s 14-year-old minor son, on Tuesday attempted suicide inside the washroom of Odisha Reserve Battali in Jharsuguda. As per reports, Sharma slit his wrist and other body parts with a piece of glass he acquired by smashing a mirror in the washroom. Currently, Sharma is on a three-day police remand. The accused was on Tuesday brought to the Odisha Reserve Battalion for interrogation in connection with the sensational case. Today was the last day of Sharma’s remand period.
Following the incident, Sharma was rescued and rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Earlier, the police had arrested two accused- Amit Kumar Sharma of Jharsuguda and Dinesh Kumar Agarwal of Brajrajnagar in connection with the case.
Samarth Agarwal’s body was recovered on March 28.
As per reports, Amit along with his aide Dinesh abducted Samarth on March 27 while the latter was on his way for cricket practice on a scooter.
As per the allegation made by Sumit s, the duo first demanded Rs 50 lakh and later Rs 90 lakh ransom from Samarth’s father for his release.
