Malkangiri, August 16, 2024 — A day-long bandh was observed across Malkangiri district today following a call given by the Hindu Jagaran Manch, led by President B.R. Dalai and Secretary Dibakar Pala. The shutdown was organized in protest against the alleged illegal entry of Bangladeshi immigrants and the reported persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh.
From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., the district came to a standstill as vehicular traffic was halted, and shops, schools, and colleges remained closed. The bandh affected all commercial establishments and educational institutions, with the exception of essential services.
The Hindu Jagaran Manch has demanded immediate action to identify and expel Bangladeshi Muslim infiltrators from the district. The protest, which was largely peaceful, aimed to draw attention to the growing concerns over illegal immigration and its impact on the local community.
As the bandh concluded, the Hindu Jagaran Manch reiterated its call for stronger measures to address the issue of illegal immigration and the protection of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. The district administration is expected to hold discussions with the organization’s leaders to address their concerns.
