Man wearing ‘Free Palestine’ t-shirt invades pitch during World Cup final
GUJURAT, NOV 19: Israel has been carrying out aerial and ground assaults on Gaza in retaliation for the October 7 attack by Hamas terrorists. There has been widespread condemnation of the violence against the Palestinians, especially the civilians becoming casualties of the war between Israel and Hamas.
The man, who invaded the pitch in Ahmedabad, was also carrying a rainbow flag. He was soon caught and taken into custody over the security breach.
A man entered the field during India vs Australia World Cup finals.
The pitch invader was brought to the Chandkheda Police station. He was seen wearing a different t-shirt and did not have his face mask on.
The man identified himself as Johnson Wayne. “I am from Australia. I entered the field to meet Virat Kohli. The protest was over the war in Palestine,” the man told reporters as he was being taken away by the police.
The match was briefly halted due to the pitch invasion. After the security officials apprehended the intruder, the match was resumed, with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul trying to build a steady partnership for India after losing 2 wickets in quick succession.
The massive Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera in Ahmedabad was packed full as cricket enthusiasts flocked to the stadium for the highly-anticipated India vs Australia World Cup finals.
Australia won the toss and elected to bowl first.
