National Science Day at Banki College: Senior scientist Dr Sandip Mishra speaks on breast cancer

Bhubaneswar, March 4: In a bid to popularize science among students, teachers and the common citizens, Banki Autonomous College observed National Science Day February 28 last.
Principal Captain Professor Bhabani Prasad Hota gave a welcome talk. Vice-principal Professor Manoj Kumar Mohapatra presented the annual report and Dr. Sashi Bhusan Mohaptra, P.G. Coordinator introduced the guests.
Dr. Sandip K Mishra, a senior scientist in the department of bio-technology, Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar, who joined the programme as chief guest, spoke on breast Cancer and its various therapeutic aspects.
Dr Mishra, who has successfully discovered many biomarkers to deal with breast cancer and molecules of breast cancer and drugs like DZNEPA, which is in pre-clinical trials, mesmerized the audience with his insightful talk. He dwelt upon breast cancer’s risk factors and its various therapeutic aspects and influenced the young generations about the need of science.
The scientist also discussed his research experiences and awarded the students for debate and quiz competition held in college on the eve of “National science Day.”
Chief speaker Dr. Akshya Kumar Pattanaik, IFS delivered a talk on biodiversity conservation. Miss Prajna Paramita Saran, JRF from Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar gave an insightful talk on breast cancer awareness.
The conference was coordinated by Mr. Shyamlal Bhue, lecturer in zoology. Dr. Niranjan Routray, HOD of Chemistry, Dr. Pramod Kumar Panda, Muktipada Panda, G. Kumari, Pritish Samal, Rakesh Padhan, Sonalika Sahoo, Nilapallabi Gocchi, Subhasmita Maharana, Biswamohini Dhala and Limarani Pradhan also coordinated the meeting.
