NCPCR Delegation from New Delhi Evaluates Child Rights Situation in Malkangiri District

Malkangiri ,6 July 2023 : Member of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), New Delhi, visited Malkangiri district on Thursday to assess the situation of child rights and protection in the region. Led by NCPCR Registrar Anu Choudhary and Legal Consultant Advocate Shivam Rai, the team conducted a comprehensive inspection of various facilities and interacted with relevant stakeholders.
During their visit to the District Headquarters Hospital , the officials emphasized the need to fill the vacant Child specialist post for the Special Newborn Care Unit . They also directed the functionalization of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in DHH, Malkangiri. The team praised the child-friendly Model Police Station and engaged with the police officials. They examined the Women and Child Desk, where 53 cases had been registered in 2023, and recommended that all cases be presented before the Child Welfare Committee.
Additionally, the team visited B B guda and MV-43 Anganwadi Centres, as well as Butiguda M E School. They suggested improvements to enhance the convenience and well-being of children in these facilities. The team also visited CCI Parivartan Sishu Gruha, a home for 44 girls and 19 boys, where they advised creating a child-friendly environment and interacted with the children to understand their challenges.
Following the inspections, the NCPCR team convened a meeting with the district administration at the DPRC building of Zilla Parishad. Officials present included ADM Maheswar Naik, Secretary of OSCPCR Prabhat Kumar Sahoo, DCPO Narayan Das, along with other District Level Officials and members of the Child Welfare Committee. The discussions centered around making appropriate arrangements for the upcoming bench session on July 7th in the Khairput block of Malkangiri district.
The visit of the NCPCR team reflects the commitment of the National Commission to ensuring the protection and well-being of children in Malkangiri district. The recommendations and discussions during this visit will likely contribute to improved child rights policies and implementation in the region.
