Odisha: No respite in Covid-19 surge as state records 6,116 new cases

There seems to be no respite in the surge in Covid-19 cases in Odisha. The state on Sunday recorded 6,116 new positives while seven patients succumbed to the disease, said a data released by the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department.
Sunday’s’s surge pushed the state’s Coronavirus positive tally to 4,07,457 while the death toll surged to 1,988. The active cases in the State stood at 45,949 while 3,59,467 patients have recovered so far.
State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department data said, of the fresh cases spread across 30 districts, 3,546 were detected among people in quarantine and 2,570 were local infections.
While two fatalities were reported from Rayagada, one death each was reported from Ganjam, Kalahandi, Khordha, Puri and Sundargarh districts, said the State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department.
As per the data released by the H&FW Department, Khordha recorded the maximum 875 case while Sundargarh with 785 cases remain second in the list.
Districts which detected cases over 100 are- Nuapada (430), Cuttack (343), Jajpur (324), Kalahandi (321), Nabarangpur (318), Sambalpur (280), Bargarh (262), Jharsuguda (254), Balangir (189), Puri (180), Mayurbhanj (158), Angul (151), Ganjam (134), Keonjhar (118), Rayagada (104) and Balasore (102).
Similarly, Nayagarh (99), Bhadrak (87), Gajapati (78), Jagatsinghpur (73), Koraput (71), Kendrapada (46), Deogarh (39), Kandhamal (36), Malkangiri (32), Boudh (32), Dhenkanal (8), Sonepur (8) are the other districts which saw less than 100 cases in 24 hours.
The state has so far tested a total of 98,34,487 samples including 41,017 on Saturday. Odisha’s positivity rate stands at 4.08 percent.
